Linklaters advises EVLO on a battery energy storage project in France

Linklaters has advised EVLO, a subsidiary of Hydro-Québec, on all aspects (supply, installation and long-term maintenance) of the Tonnerre project.

The Tonnerre project is a 9 MWh battery energy storage project located near Innergex’s Yonne wind farm in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France. It uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, patented by Hydro-Québec and marketed by its subsidiary EVLO. The project, which is scheduled to be in service by the end of 2021, is based on a 7-year fixed-price contract with RTE (France’s electricity transmission system operator).

The project will contribute to the stability of the grid during periods of stress (e.g. extreme cold, limited energy generation), as well as to its reliability and security by containing deviations from its target frequency (50 Hz).

Linklaters’ Energy & Infrastructure team was led by François April, Partner and Samuel Bordeleau, Counsel, assisted by Aymeric Voisin (Managing Associate), Noémie Lisbonis-Boyer and Youssef Berrada (Associates).
