Karnataka HC sent a Man to Jail for throwing footwear at bench of sub-ordinate court; rejected apology

The Karnataka high court has convicted one B M Shivanna, a resident of Hosadurga taluk in Chitradurga district on the charge of contempt of court for throwing footwear at the bench while the JMFC court was hearing his matter on December 23,2016.

A division bench headed by Justice R B Budihal has sentenced Shivanna to undergo four months simple imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 2,000.The bench also refused to accept his apology.
The high court had registered suo motu criminal contempt case against him.
Shivanna had lodged a forgery case against his two brothers. When the court was passing orders on the exemption application filed by one of the accused brothers, he allegedly threw footwear at the bench.
