Global law firm DLA Piper has appointed Cillian Moynihan as a partner in its global Private Equity group, further strengthening the firm’s capabilities in advising clients on cross-border transactions and investment strategies.
Effective today, Cillian joins DLA Piper’s London office with more than a decade of experience spanning private practice and in-house roles. He has advised leading private equity, venture capital, credit and sovereign wealth funds on a wide range of domestic and international transactions, including private M&A and public takeovers.
Most recently, Cillian held a senior in-house role at a global investment fund, where he advised on M&A activity, growth-stage investments, and strategic legal matters, including the establishment and first close of its new growth fund vehicle. His combined private practice and investor-side experience provides a unique perspective on the commercial priorities, opportunities, and challenges faced by clients throughout the investment lifecycle.
Ed Griffiths, Global co-lead of DLA Piper’s Private Equity Group, commented: “Cillian has that rare combination of elite technical excellence, and first-hand investor-side judgment. He understands dealmaking from both sides of the table — as a highly technical M&A lawyer and as a senior in-house investment professional. That combination of legal precision and commercial judgment is increasingly valuable to clients navigating complex cross-border opportunities.
“His appointment is another important step in the continued growth of our global Private Equity practice and will help us to continue delivering the strategic advice and seamless client service for which DLA Piper is known”.
DLA Piper is the most active private equity legal adviser by PitchBook for eight consecutive years and has one of the world’s largest M&A practices, having been ranked the leading legal adviser globally by deal volume by Mergermarket for 16 consecutive years.
