Linklaters advises CIP on acquisition of a 25% interest in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm

Linklaters has advised Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (“CIP”) on its acquisition, through its fifth flagship fund, Copenhagen Infrastructure V (CI V), of a 25% interest in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm project from a Macquarie-led consortium.

Five Estuaries is a planned extension to the existing Galloper Offshore Wind Farm, located approximately 40km off the north Essex and south Suffolk coast. The up to 1,080MW project received development consent in December 2025. Once operational, it is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately one million average UK homes annually.

The Linklaters team was led by Energy & Infrastructure partner Richard Coar and Corporate partner Chris Staples, together with Counsel David Leeming, Managing Associate Monique Fraser and Associates Sara Pacey, Carmen Wong and Abhijit Murthy.

Richard Coar commented: “We are delighted to have worked together again with CIP on the acquisition of a stake in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm. Having advised on the project financing of the existing Galloper project eleven years ago, it’s great to have been able to be involved in its extension. We wish all the sponsors every success in taking the project forward in what remains a dynamic and fast-moving energy transition market in the UK”.

The transaction builds on the Linklaters team’s unrivalled track record advising clients on the acquisition, development and financing of offshore wind farm projects in the UK and around the world.
