Global law firm Hogan Lovells Cadwalader has advised Österreichische Glasfaser-Infrastrukturgesellschaft (öGIG) on its first debt financing, with a total volume of €225 million.
The financing was provided by BayernLB, KfW, Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich AG and the European Investment Bank. The involvement of the EU institution underscores the importance of high-performance fibre-optic networks for the digital development of Austria and Europe.
öGIG is one of Austria’s leading private-sector developers of open-access fibre-optic networks. In 2019, öGIG’s parent company Allianz laid the foundation for one of the largest investments in Austria’s broadband expansion, initially financing the development entirely through equity. Following several successful years of network expansion, the new financing strengthens öGIG’s capital structure and provides the basis for the company’s next phase of growth. With the additional funding, öGIG intends to further advance the private-sector rollout of open-access fibre-optic networks across Austria.
“Complex infrastructure financings involving multiple financing partners are a core focus of our practice. We are pleased to have brought our extensive financing expertise ce to this transaction and to support öGIG as it enters its next phase of growth,” said Carla Luh, Head of Finance Germany at Hogan Lovells Cadwalader.
The Hogan Lovells Cadwalader team provided comprehensive advice to Österreichische Glasfaser-Infrastrukturgesellschaft on all legal aspects of the financing. The team was led by partner Dr Carla Luh and counsel Stipe Bojanic, with support from associate Marko Skraba and foreign associate Aysegül Sargin. Further advise was provided by partner Ariane Mehrshahi, senior associate Carla Valdés Cortés, and legal advisor Eszter Voros. All questions relating to Austrian matters were handled by law firm E+H Rechtsanwälte GmbH.
Dr Carla Luh and her team regularly advise clients on complex financing transactions, combining extensive experience in structuring sophisticated financing arrangements with a deep understanding of the individual needs of their clients.
