DLA Piper advises lenders on AUD845 million financing for Australian tech company Megaport

Global law firm DLA Piper has advised a syndicate of eight domestic and international banks on an AUD845 million (USD586 million) senior secured debt financing for Megaport Limited (ASX: MP1).

Megaport is a Brisbane-headquartered technology company that provides a global network, compute and storage infrastructure platform. The new facilities will provide Megaport with a flexible debt platform to support its continued growth. This includes its continued expansion into AI infrastructure through strategic compute contracts and increased graphics processing unit (GPU) capacity. The financing also refinances Megaport’s existing AUD150 million (USD104 million) facility.

DLA Piper advised the lenders on all aspects of the transaction, from the initial commitment documents through to the long-form facility and security documentation.

This cross-border transaction involved DLA Piper teams from Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

DLA Piper Finance partner David Kirkland commented: “This financing highlights the growing intersection of digital infrastructure and AI. Working across multiple jurisdictions, we helped establish a scalable debt platform that will support Megaport’s next phase of growth as it looks to capitalise on demand for integrated AI and GPU infrastructure. We appreciate the lenders’ trust and valued the opportunity to work closely with the Megaport team and its advisers to deliver this transaction.”

The core team comprised of partners David Kirkland (Australia), Wolfram Distler (Germany), Michael Thompson (New Zealand), Vincent Seah (Singapore), Richard Normington (United Kingdom) and Joe Stefano (United States); special counsel Katie Best (Australia) and solicitor Sophia Davies (Australia).
