
Global law firm Clifford Chance has advised Martello Re, the Bermuda-based Class E life and annuity reinsurer, in its US$1.3 billion capital raise.
Martello Re is backed, among others, by founders MassMutual (a life insurance and financial services company), Barings (a global investment management firm), Centerbridge Partners (a global private capital firm), and Brown Brothers Harriman (a global private capital firm).
The capital raised will enable Martello Re to continue to expand its offering and grow its reinsurance business including by partnering with additional ceding companies in the coming years.
The multi-practice team was led by private equity partner Neil Barlow and associate Eric Schaffer. They were supported by insurance partners Dennis Manfredi and Frank Monaco, insurance associate Chloe Wang, tax partner Michael Seaton, and M&A associates Susan Trepekli and Michelle Verkhoglaz. Partner Paul Koppel and associates David Walsh and Ivona Dimov provided support on employment matters.
