Global law firm Clifford Chance has advised EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction & Development), IFC, Erste Group AG and Sparkasse Bank AD Skoplje on the financing of Phase 1 of the Stip Wind Project in North Macedonia, being developed by Alcazar Energy Partners, independent sustainable infrastructure fund manager focused on renewable energy in growth markets.
The project is the first phase of one of the largest wind energy developments in the Western Balkans, with a total planned installed capacity of up to 396 MW. Phase 1, which has reached financial close, involves the construction of 21 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 131 MW, together with a substation and related transmission infrastructure. It is the largest wind project in the region built entirely on a private offtake basis.
Our cross-practice team was led by Milica Zatezalo-Falatar, with Violaine Lecoq-Burgelin, Maxence de Rouville, Henry Newton-Savage and Jake Lowry. Sandy Hall, Jonathan Forrest and Tom Pemberton advised on the construction aspects. Philip Walsh and Johanneke Butijn advised on the private offtake aspects.
