Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has advised Inmarsat on the UK, EU and other non-US antitrust aspects of its US$7.2 billion merger with US-based satellite network operator Viasat. The transaction closed on 31 May 2023.
Partner and Head of the London Antitrust Practice Greg Olsen led on the deal and was supported by counsel Michael Rueter, senior associates Sian Fagan and Deepaloke Chatterjee, and associate Rani Chowdhary.
The transaction was subject to a complex Phase 2 review before both the UK Competition and Markets Authority and the European Commission which was focussed on the provision of in-flight connectivity services provided to commercial airlines.
