Clifford Chance advises Brookfield on acquisition of UK renewable energy developer Banks Renewables

Global law firm Clifford Chance is advising Brookfield Renewable Partners (“Brookfield”), one of the world’s largest investors in renewable power and climate transition assets, on the acquisition of UK renewable energy developer Banks Renewables. Brookfield’s acquisition will be made in the second vintage of Brookfield’s Global Transition Fund.

Operating across northern England and Scotland, Banks Renewables works with landowners to take renewable and flexible energy projects including onshore wind, solar and battery storage projects from inception to completion. Its total portfolio comprises more than 4 GW including approximately 300MW of operational wind farms, approximately 300MW of solar, onshore wind and battery projects that have received planning permission, and a further pipeline of approximately 3.5GW.

The Clifford Chance multidisciplinary team was led by clean energy M&A partner Jonathan Dillon, with support from senior associate Samuel Monk and an extensive team of expert lawyers across the firm’s London practice.

The transaction builds on Clifford Chance’s market-leading position as advisor to global investors in renewable energy and the energy transition.
