Global law firm Clifford Chance has advised multinational dairy cooperative Arla Foods on its acquisition of Australian cottage cheese producer Brancourts through Arla Foods Mayer Australia – its joint venture with Australian family-owned Mayers Fine Food.
The acquisition provides Arla Foods Mayer Australia with an established local production platform and enhances its ability to respond to evolving consumer preferences. By combining Brancourts’ production capabilities with Arla’s global category expertise and innovation capabilities, the business is well positioned to expand its branded offering and pursue further growth opportunities in the Australian dairy market.
Mark Currell, Managing Partner, Australia, said: “We are delighted to have supported Arla Foods on this strategic acquisition, advising across the full spectrum of legal issues through our multidisciplinary team. The transaction further strengthens Arla’s footprint in Australia and positions Arla Foods Mayer Australia for continued growth as consumer demand evolves across the dairy sector.”
Mark Currell led the deal team, supported by counsel Sarah Jenkins, associates Libby Berger and Kingsley Duru, and graduate lawyer Lauren Erni. Partner Elizabeth Richmond and senior associate Sam Frouhar advised on the antitrust aspects of the transaction. Partner Rebecca Elgar, counsel Adrianna Witkowski, senior associate Japonica Sheridan and associate Thomas Prestwidge advised on the real estate aspects, while partner Clancy King and senior associate Paul Bonjour advised on employment matters.
