Hogan Lovells Cadwalader expands financial services and digital assets capabilities with former U.S. Treasury official Tyler Williams

Washington, D.C. – Global law firm Hogan Lovells Cadwalader has announced that Tyler Williams, counselor for digital assets to the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, has joined the firm. Williams joins the firm’s Government Relations & Public Affairs practice as a Senior Advisor in Washington, D.C. He brings extensive experience in digital assets, financial services policy, banking regulation, and government affairs.

Williams most recently served as Treasury’s first official dedicated exclusively to digital asset policy, helping shape the federal government’s evolving approach to digital assets and blockchain technology. Prior to Treasury, he was Global Head of Public Policy and Regulatory Counsel at Galaxy Digital.

“I am very happy to welcome Tyler to the firm. He is a recognized leader in financial services policy and digital assets,” said Aaron Cutler, Practice Area Leader – Government Relations and Public Affairs. “His arrival and his experience working across the Administration, Congress, financial regulators, and the private sector will be a tremendous asset to clients navigating complex policy and regulatory challenges.”

At the firm, Williams will advise clients on legislative, regulatory, and government engagement strategies, drawing on his 15+ years of experience navigating complex regulatory and policy matters. Most recently, Williams led Treasury’s efforts on GENIUS Act implementation, working across the government on the landmark law’s implementation efforts, and was a driving force helping advance the CLARITY Act in Congress.

United States Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said: “Tyler’s leadership on digital asset policy has been instrumental in advancing President Trump’s vision of making the United States the crypto capital of the world. He played a critical role in securing the passage and implementation of the GENIUS Act. His efforts on the CLARITY Act have also helped bring this important legislation to the threshold of the President’s desk. Tyler’s contributions to the President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets and its 180-day report helped establish an enduring roadmap for American leadership, innovation, and economic security in the digital asset era. We are grateful for his service and wish him every success in his new role.”

“Our firm delivers exceptional results at the intersection of business, finance, and government,” said Hogan Lovells Cadwalader CEO Miguel Zaldivar. “Tyler’s addition underscores our commitment to advising clients, especially those in the financial services sector, as they navigate the policy environment surrounding cryptocurrency, digital assets, and payments. His background aligns with one of the firm’s key strategic priorities—the Future of Digitalization.”

“As a historic leader in Washington, we continue to invest in areas that are priorities for our clients,” said Ajay Kuntamukkala, Office Managing Partner – Washington, D.C. “One of the areas we’ve targeted for growth is financial services regulation and Tyler is the perfect addition to our office, with his wealth of experience in the government on digital asset policy.”

Williams previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy at Treasury and held senior staff roles with members of both the Senate Banking Committee and the House Financial Services Committee. He also serves as an adjunct professor at The George Washington University Law School.

Williams added: “Hogan Lovells Cadwalader has built an exceptional platform for advising clients where law, policy, regulation, and market innovation converge. The firm’s combination of government affairs, regulatory, and transactional capabilities presents a unique opportunity to serve clients operating across the financial services and digital assets sectors.”

Williams earned his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and his B.A. from Kenyon College.
