DLA Piper further strengthens global investigations and litigation platform with leading litigator Eric Bruce

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that renowned lawyer Eric Bruce has joined the firm as a Partner in the White Collar Crime, Investigations, and Government Enforcement practice. His arrival adds to the firm’s ability to advise multinational companies on complex cross-border regulatory, enforcement, and litigation matters. He is based in Washington, DC.

Bruce advises global corporations, boards of directors, and senior executives on some of their most significant enforcement matters, regulatory challenges, and cross-border litigation issues. He has extensive experience handling matters involving Foreign Corrupt Practices Act allegations, sanctions and export controls, money laundering, securities fraud, antitrust violations, terrorist financing, False Claims Act violations, and complex civil litigation under the US Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

He joins at a critical juncture, as companies are increasingly facing compliance and risk management challenges including new Foreign Terrorist Organization designations and related sanctions and enforcement developments. Bruce advises clients on potential exposure by conducting risk assessments and strengthening internal controls to address emerging threats. His work frequently spans Latin America and other key markets, positioning him to help clients address risks across the region and around the world.

“Few lawyers combine top-notch government investigations experience with a deep understanding of ATA litigation,” said Ilana Eisenstein, who co-leads DLA Piper’s Global Litigation and Regulatory practice and heads the firm’s US Litigation practice. “Eric brings a distinctive perspective shaped by his work across government, enforcement, and private practice. That breadth of experience is exceptionally rare and further strengthens the counsel we provide clients facing high-stakes matters.”

Bruce spent more than a decade as a federal prosecutor in the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. He also served as Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division and as Counselor to the US Attorney General at the Department of Justice. He is ranked Band 1 by Chambers for white collar crime defense and government investigations in the District of Columbia.

“Eric is an outstanding addition to our team and reflects our continued commitment to enhancing our market-leading global investigations and enforcement platform,” said John Hillebrecht, who co-leads the firm’s White Collar Crime, Investigations, and Government Enforcement practice. “He enhances our capabilities and deepens the bench of talent available to clients facing their most consequential legal and business challenges.”

Bruce’s arrival reflects the continued growth of DLA Piper’s global investigations and enforcement platform, which currently stands at approximately 350 compliance and investigations lawyers and public affairs and communications professionals worldwide, as well as more than 40 former US Attorneys, Assistant US Attorneys, and state Attorneys General. He is the fourth partner to join the investigations team in Washington, DC in the past 18 months.
