Linklaters partners with Architects of Life on social impact initiative to overcome stigma and empower ex-offenders in Singapore

Linklaters partnered with Architects of Life, a Singaporean social enterprise that works with at-risk youth and ex-offenders, to host an X-Offender Accelerator training programme (XOA).

The XOA is a personal development programme that aims to reduce the stigma around ex-offenders and equip them with the essential skills required to build a new life and contribute to society.

Linklaters, who partnered with JP Morgan Legal Pro Bono Committee to facilitate the programme, hosted the four powerful training sessions in their Singapore office, where Linklaters and JP Morgan volunteers acted as mentors to guide the students through the development of critical core skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, perspective-shifting and public speaking.

At the conclusion of the programme, the 14 graduating students shared their learning and commitments at the XOA Graduation Ceremony in September, which was attended by Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

Southeast Asia COO, Andrew Wallis, commented:

“We’re delighted to support Architects of Life in delivering their X-Offender Accelerator training programme, it’s a fantastic programme where the students learn important skills, empowering them in their personal lives and careers.”

Executive Director of Architects of Life, Yi Juan Low commented:

“Thank you to Linklaters for partnering with us on this programme. It was truly inspiring to hear from our students regarding their journey to overcoming personal setbacks and the impact of a positive mindset, upon their graduation from the programme.”

Empowering people to improve their lives is one of the key strands of Linklaters’ global Social Impact strategy, which focuses on ensuring that everyone is given the opportunity to realise their aspirations and reach their full potential.
