Linklaters has advised Ameriprise Financial, Inc. on a definitive agreement with BMO Financial Group to acquire its EMEA asset management business for £615 million, or approximately $845 million.
In the U.S., the transaction includes the opportunity for certain BMO asset management clients to move to Columbia Threadneedle Investments, Ameriprise Financial’s global asset management business, subject to client consent.
The acquisition also establishes a strategic relationship giving BMO’s North American Wealth Management clients opportunities to access a range of Columbia Threadneedle investment management solutions.
The all-cash transaction is currently expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The Linklaters team was led by partner Peter Cohen-Millstein alongside partner Brad Caswell and counsel Emma Clark, Mike Dankis and Megan Ridley-Kaye.
