Led by Matthias Hirschmann and Dr. Maximilian Frystatzki, global law firm Hogan Lovells has advised Canadian power producer Northland Power on the acquisition of 100% equity interests in two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Poland. The projects were acquired from Greenvolt Power Group sp. z o. o., a global developer of renewable energy projects.

The projects located in western Poland, Mieczysławów (200 MW / 800 MWh) and Kamionka (100 MW / 400 MWh), each have a four-hour duration. Financing and the start of construction are expected in 2026, with an estimated total cost of €200 million. Once operational, the projects will be among the first BESS facilities in Poland.

Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Toronto, Northland has a long history of developing, owning and operating a diversified mix of energy infrastructure assets, including offshore and onshore wind, solar, battery energy storage, and natural gas. The acquisition strengthens Northland’s growing presence in Poland and underscores its commitment to supporting the country’s energy needs.

The Hogan Lovells Corporate Finance Infra Energy Team brings extensive experience in advising on challenging transactions in the energy sector, such as battery storage, renewable energies and infrastructure projects. The team supports investors and developers in all phases of project development and offers tailor-made solutions for flagship projects.
