Clifford Chance advised the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Italy (MEF) in the sale of a further 15% of the capital of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena for approximately EUR 1.1 billion

Clifford Chance has advised the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Italy (MEF) in the sale of a further 15% stake of the share capital of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMPS), through an Accelerated Book Building reserved to Italian and foreign institutional investors, for an approximately amount of EUR 1.1 billion.

As a result, MEF’s stake in BMPS share capital will decrease from 26.7% to approximately 11.7%. Banca Akros S.p.A. Gruppo Banco BPM acted as Global Coordinator and Bookrunner.

The Clifford Chance team was coordinated by Senior Of Counsel Enrico Giordano, assisted by Senior Associate Vittorio Novelli and Associate Alessia Aiello.

Clifford Chance has already advised the MEF in the two previous sales of BMPS shares through Accelerated Bookbuilding of 25% and 12.5% of the share capital of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, for an amount of EUR 920 million and EUR 650 million, respectively, in November 2023 and March 2024.
