Clifford Chance has advised Australia’s Karoon Energy on its ~US$760 million entry into the Gulf of Mexico via acquisition of interests in multiple oil and gas assets from LLOG Exploration and affiliates.

Karoon’s purchase includes acquiring 30% interest in the Who Dat, and Dome Patrol, and 16% interest in Abilene oil and gas fields as well as varying interests in multiple adjacent exploration and appraisal opportunities.

Houston-based partner David Sweeney led the deal with assistance from associates Hailey Hennessey, Matthew Mouer and Thomas Shattuck.

The wider Clifford Chance team included Washington, DC-based partner Renee Latour, senior counsel David Evans, Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) attorney David Michnal, and associates Holly Bauer, Serena Seaman, and Elyssa Wenzel.

Sweeney said, “It was a privilege to help Karoon Energy debut in the Gulf of Mexico. This transaction exemplifies Clifford Chance’s capabilities to offer complete advisory services to global players.”
