Advocate Shruti Bist, a practicing lawyer in Supreme Court of India will serve as National President of Cyber Security Council, Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Advocate Shruti is a practicing lawyer in Supreme Court specializing in Cyber Laws. She is an author, legal columnist, and public speaker. She has worked as a legal expert in legislative lawmaking of various bills before parliament including ‘The Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019’ and an intermediary bill pending before the Joint Parliamentary Committee. She has been awarded ‘Inspiring citizens award’ by approved by HRD Ministry, Odisha for her contribution in the field of cyber laws and human rights, women of excellence award for outstanding work in law.
On Thursday 27/08/2020, WICCI has launched the National Cyber Security Council which will have a chapter at every state for better policy making in the field of cyber laws. Speaking on the appointment, Harbeen Arora the founder president, WICCI said, ‘looking at achievements, positive focus and drive I am glad to appoint Shruti Bist to prestigious post at a young age. In her role as national president, she will oversee the work of all state council and national council and work on strategic policy making of cyber laws in India, cybersecurity laws and regulations tend to cover the most common matters that arise from cyber threats. These matters include a focus on criminal activity, corporate governance, insurance matters, and the jurisdiction of law enforcement. A majority of cyber-crimes do not get prosecuted because the victims do not report the crime to the authorities. Small, medium, and even large organizations have failed to disclose breaches. This is necessary to increase awareness of cyber laws across the country. The cybercrime against women and children is increasing in India and it is necessary to take strong actions towards the prevention of crime. The cybersecurity council looks forward to signing a memorandum of understanding with information and technology ministries, national and central universities and cyber law organization’s to urge the government to draft strong and stringent cybersecurity laws to ensure safety for women and netizens in India’, says Adv Shruti Bist, National President of cybersecurity council.
