Legal League Consulting, management consultants to global legal industry, recently organized a Virtual Summit on “Law Firm Management and Covid-19: The Recovery Code” with an eminent panel comprising of Dr. Lalit Bhasin, President of the Society of Indian Law Firms and the Bar Association of India; Mr. Cyril Shroff, Managing Partner of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas; Mr. Yarman J. Vachha, Managing Director of YJV Consulting; Mr. Sameer Chugh, Group General Counsel at Bharti Group; Ms. Manjari Chowdhary, Executive Director & General Counsel at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. and Ms. Bithika Anand, Founder & CEO of Legal League Consulting and Human Elevation. The Virtual Summit was supported by the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) and Human Elevation and hosted by Mr. Nipun Bhatia, President – Strategic Legal Management, Legal League Consulting.

This was a ‘first of its kind’ virtual platform where panellists brainstormed over practical issues being faced by the law firms and how to address them with the help of accomplished members from the legal field. In continuation with Legal League Consulting’s endeavours to contribute to the evolution of the legal profession, this all-inclusive platform enabled discussion on best practices adopted by various stakeholders from the legal ecosystem.

Ms. Bithika Anand spearheaded the Summit discussion and set the base by sharing a few useful insights on the importance of the ‘Recovery Code’ for Law Firms by drawing from her decades of experience in Consulting. The discussion was opened by Dr. Lalit Bhasin who explained how each Firm will have to discover their own style of adapting to issues and how ‘Professional to Professional’ responsibility will pave the way for synergized growth in legal sector. He suggested that leading law firms could hand-hold emerging law firms so that they sustain their practice.

Mr. Cyril Shroff delivered the keynote address and shared that COVID-19 is no ordinary disruption and trying to narrow down on projected trends will be challenging. He stressed upon how law firms should give utmost importance to health and safety of their people. This should be followed by exploring innovative ways to stay efficient and maintain client proximity. Firms need to utilize this time to re-strategize, re-structure and develop stronger business plans as they will face least resistance for change at this moment.

Mr. Yarman J. Vachha signified the importance of maintaining liquidity as opposed to focussing on profitability. Mr. Sameer Chugh, Group General Counsel, Bharti Group discussed how law firms needed to invest in technology with a holistic and long-term vision and intergrate it to overall business functions and strategy. He also shared his thoughs on cyber security and its importance in ensuring confidentiality of information at various phases of the information cycle. Ms. Manjaree Chowdhary, Executive Director & General Counsel Maruti Suzuki India Pvt. Ltd spoke on how discipline is a vital aspect to ensure successful remote working and how Partners need to discuss its importance with their teams to ensure maximum efficiency while working from home. She also spoke about how currently it is the best time to strengthen your client relationships as once things normalize, you will be the first point of contact on their radar for services.

The Summit was very well-received by way of live audience on Legal League Consulting Facebook Page and registered more than 1000 views and the takeaways were appreciated by everyone – right from corporate legal departments to top law firms, mid-tier firms, upcoming law firms and young legal practitioners.
