DLA Piper announced that veteran music lawyer Scott Bradford has joined the firm’s Entertainment practice as of counsel in Los Angeles.
Bradford represents record labels, publishing companies, media companies, merchandisers, publishers, and eSports licensors, as well as recording artists and producers, in connection with recording, licensing, distribution, publishing, merchandising and digital content agreements. He handles the negotiation and drafting of complex agreements on behalf of buyers and sellers of an assortment of music content, including recordings, compositions and royalty streams, as well as recording and publishing arrangements on behalf of successful producers and artists with major and independent recording and publishing companies.
“Scott’s extensive experience and long-standing relationships in the music industry will enhance our offerings on the West Coast and further complement the profile of our burgeoning media and entertainment team,” said Tom Ara, partner and co-chair of DLA Piper’s Entertainment Finance and Transactions practices. “With the addition of Scott’ music experience to our existing bench of experienced media and entertainment lawyers, we are able to deliver the full suite of media and entertainment legal counsel to our clients across the DLA Piper platform. We are excited to welcome him to our team.”
Ara and his DLA Piper partners Robert J. Sherman and David Markman joined in late 2018 to lead the firm’s steadily growing Entertainment Finance and Transactions practices. The team has since handled such high-profile matters as representing Walt Disney Co. on certain key aspects of the Fox merger and the acquisition of the Open Road Film assets out of bankruptcy.
“DLA Piper offers an unparalleled platform for my clients, which enables me to significantly expand the legal practice offerings available to them,” Bradford said. “I am thrilled to bring my practice to DLA Piper and to join the extraordinary team of media and entertainment lawyers already at the firm.”
Bradford, who joins from Selverne & Co. PLLC, received his J.D. from Southwestern Law School and his B.A. from Duke University.
