The second edition of the Suresh and Bharati Shroff Memorial T20 Cricket League got off to a rollicking start, as teams of nine law firms and the All Delhi Bar Associations came together to play for the coveted silver cup at the Siri Fort Cricket Ground in New Delhi. The league, inaugurated last year to commemorate the centennial anniversary of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, will see 10 teams compete in 23 matches spread over two months.
Besides Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, the law firms competing in the league include AZB & Partners, Dua Associates, J Sagar Associates, Khaitan & Co, Luthra & Luthra, Anand & Anand, Lakhsmikumaran & Sridharan, and Trilegal.
This year’s edition is special for another reason. It will see participation of three women players during the tournament – one each in teams of SAM & Co, Anand & Anand and the All Delhi Bar Associations.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Mr. Shardul S Shroff, Executive Chairman, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, said, “After the warm reception it received last year, I am excited that participation in the tournament has risen this year. Dedicated to the memory of my parents, the Suresh and Bharati Shroff Memorial T20 Cricket League is a rare occasion where the legal fraternity comes together as a community to celebrate the love for the game. It is a nice way of saying that we lawyers can have fun too and like to lock horns outside courts and boardrooms.”
Lauding the spirit shown by law firms in taking part in the Suresh and Bharati Shroff Memorial T20 Cricket League, Ms. Pallavi S Shroff,Managing Partner, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas said, “It is a proud moment for us today as we begin the second edition of this annual Cricket League, which has now become an important date in the calendar of law firms. This tournament gives all of us a chance to break away from our routine lives and builds camaraderie among colleagues who have worked many years together, sometimes on opposing sides.”
Last year, the Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas team won in the final match against the All Delhi Bar Associations.
Mr. Anoop Rawat, Partner, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, and captain of the SAM & Co team, said, “It feels really great to be here for the second year representing our team as the captain and see our fraternity come together for this event. We won the league last year and hope to see a good tournament this year as well.”
Mr. Dushyant Nanak, Captain of All Delhi Bar Associations, said, “It is an exciting tournament as we see lawyers competing in a cricket pitch that gives them the much-needed break from their busy schedules. We look forward playing competitive cricket and it is encouraging to see participation of women in the league.”
