The Supreme Court on 23rd July, 2018 refused to remove the ban on the sale and publication of the book “Godman To Tycoon” alleged to be on yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s life. While confirming the order passed by the Delhi High Court has denied the temporary relief to the publisher of the book named Juggernaut Books. This decision was given by the bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud.
The Court has also directed the Delhi High Court to decide the petition by the end of the September month. The Delhi High Court had upheld the order passed by the Trial Court banning the publication and sale of the book.
Baba Ramdev, against the book, has claimed that it contains defamatory and false information tended to harm his reputation and led to a conclusion that he has been involved in certain unlawful and mischievous. Journalist Priyanka Pathak Narai is author of the book which was published in the month of July 2017.
Amazon India and Flipkart has also been ordered not to sell the book and stop the pending delivery of the book immediately.
The publisher in its statement has claimed that the book has been written taking into consideration various interviews, key persons in Baba Ramdev’s life including his family members and staff, and certain articles.
