Sidley is pleased to announce the addition of partner Rakhee V. Patel to its Restructuring group. She joins Texas-based partners Duston McFaul and Charles Persons in Sidley’s growing global Restructuring practice, on the heels of the recently announced addition of London-based partner Kieran Sharma. Ms. Patel is a key component of Sidley’s focus on the growth of its company-side restructuring representations worldwide. Prior to joining Sidley, Ms. Patel was a partner with a national firm in their corporate restructuring and bankruptcy practice group and has more than 26-years of experience in the field.
Ms. Patel is a leading practitioner in corporate reorganization and has extensive experience advising clients on in- and out-of-court restructurings, distressed investments, and related litigation. Her experience spans a wide variety of markets and industries, including energy, hospitality, financial products, retail, distribution, manufacturing, aviation, financial services, life sciences, and real estate. A Chambers USA-ranked partner, Ms. Patel recently was selected as a Fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy and inducted in Washington, D.C.
“Rakhee not only has the skills and drive to support our growing restructuring practice through her deep experience and profile in Texas, but she is also strategic and thoughtful when working with clients and colleagues. Her tenacity and team-oriented values will serve her well as she grows her client base at Sidley,” said Yvette Ostolaza, the firm’s Management Committee Chair and Executive Committee Member. “Her reputation with bankruptcy judges is in the highest regard and her knowledge from debtor representations to creditors or lenders and ad hoc committees will bolster our reach as we continue to grow our restructuring practice.”
“Rakhee bolsters our team with her extensive experience and deep connections,” said Stephen Hessler, Sidley’s Restructuring group global practice lead. “For years our lawyers have worked across from Rakhee and have been impressed with her skills and results. She will be a valuable asset to our global restructuring clients and practice.”
Sidley’s global Restructuring group includes nearly 70 lawyers — including seven partners in Europe and Asia — working on the largest and most complex cross-border insolvency mandates. In 2022, Sidley was company counsel in many of the largest restructurings worldwide, including 11 matters with funded debt liabilities of more than US$1 billion, and several of the largest restructurings by funded debt globally, including China Evergrande (US$19 billion), Reverse Mortgage Investment Trust (US$1.4 billion), and Modern Land (China) Co.
