Sidley Represents United Airlines in Historic Aircraft Purchase

By Legal Desire 2 Min Read

Sidley is representing United Airlines in a historic agreement to purchase 100 Boeing 787 Dreamliners with options to purchase 100 more. This widebody order is the largest by a U.S. carrier in commercial aviation history. The historic purchase is the next chapter in the ambitious United Next plan and will bolster the airline’s leadership role in global travel for years to come. United expects to take delivery of the new widebody planes between 2024 and 2032 and can choose among the 787-8, 9 or 10 models, providing flexibility to support a wide range of routes.

Sidley is also assisting United with its purchase of 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, and its amendment to delivery schedules for its Airbus A350 aircraft to better align with United’s needs.

The Sidley team was led by Kevin P. Lewis and Bart J. Biggers (Transportation), with support from Grant Ellis (M&A). The team also included Anna Remis and Paul Kariyawasam (Technology Transactions), Ted Murphy and Aaron M. Applebaum (Global Arbitration, Trade and Advocacy), Atman Shukla (Transportation), Alan Charles Raul and Sasha Hondagneu-Messner (Privacy and Cybersecurity), Jahanzeb Jahania, Matt Nelson, Ashley S. Rogers, and Staci C. Shelby (M&A and Private Equity), Scott J. Heyman (Tax), as well as Charles Schafer, Robert S. Velevis, and Connor R. Brewer (Commercial Litigation and Disputes).
