Rajasthan election authority issued a circular directing the District election officers to take the necessary steps so as to enroll every transgender in voter list. For this purpose authority directed the officer:-
- To make a list of every transgender of the district.
- To send BLO to those areas where transgender live so as to enrol them to voter list. This can be done with the help of a member of the existing transgender committee in districts. And in case if the committees are not active then they should be made active considering them an important part of the society.
- To take help from Pushpa Mai/ Sh. Pradeep, President of New Bhor Sanstha, if needed, in order to get every transgender enrolled.
Such circular come up after many failed attempts to get every transgender enrolled in voter list. There is enough population of transgender in the state of Rajasthan but their names in voter list are close to nil. To substantiate this with an example, in 2013 state legislature election, only 350 names of transgender were registered in the voter list and out of which only 35 exercised their right to vote.
According to state census of 2011 the number of third gender voters in Rajasthan is more than 16,000 and their population is even more than that. During the revaluation program of 2018, it is important to join more and more third gender voters who were left out as they are also the citizens of nation like others and according to our constitution every citizen of India has complete right to vote.
Their opinions are of great value and they should be encouraged to come forward to take part in such events. They are one of us and should be treated like that only. Every state government along with the Central government should keep taking such initiatives for the making them feel as they also belong to this nation and are valued.
