Nelsons secures new associate to support Charitable Trust work

Naomi McFadden, Nelsons

A New associate has been added to the Court of Protection team at leading East Midlands law firm Nelsons, as the department continues to experience high volumes of referrals for its specialist services.

Naomi McFadden, who will be based in the Nottingham office, qualified as a solicitor in 2020 and has advised on estate administration, will preparation, trust creation and administration, tax advice and lasting powers of attorney.

She said: “I am proud to have joined Nelsons, having been aware of its innovative and forward-thinking approach within the legal sector, as well as its positive work culture. I hope to use my experience in wills, probate and tax to support the Court of Protection team’s clients and join my team in delivering Nelsons’ first-rate service.

“I will be continuing much of the work I did on trusts, with a focus on the charitable sector – an area I am particularly passionate about. I am fortunate to be a trustee and secretary of Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes, which allows me to use real-life experience to help advise our charity clients on everything from administration services to trust creation, ongoing compliance and trustee duties.”

Nelsons acts for more than 70 charities with specialist solicitors that hold in-depth knowledge of advising a broad range of organisations.

The charity team is ranked in tier one in The Legal 500, providing an advisory role to trustees and senior managers in their strategic planning and aims to provide a practical, pragmatic and seamless service.

Gemma Hopper, senior associate and head of the Court of Protection team, said: “Naomi brings a wealth of expertise of charitable trusts and similarly to other members of our team, she is a trustee herself giving her a unique understanding of the sector and what it takes to volunteer and have that responsibility.

“Specialised teams such as ours are rare; as well as the charitable trusts, we work to protect vulnerable adults, dealing with deputyships, Court of Protection and niche personal injury trusts. These courts move quickly, and cases can become more complicated as they progress, which is where we often see referrals coming in.

“The team have recently been shortlisted for Team of the Year at the Nottinghamshire Law Society Annual Awards, taking place in April, so it’s an exciting time and as we continue to grow and strengthen the team, I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds.”
