Who said fellowships are hard nuts to be cracked? Who said mentors are difficult to work with? Who said mentors are overtly professional and strict and make you burn the midnight’s oil? On a very meditative and unhumorous note, I would like to take the sovereignty to put an end to such gagged up myths.
My journey with Legal Desire started off with an opportunity I had seized by being declared as a third runner up of the National Drafting Competition that was organised by Legal Desire, itself. In my case, I could not thank my stars enough as I didn’t have to follow the quintessential way of applying for a fellowship and waiting for its response as I had laid my hands on it as token of winning prize in the competition.
The tenure of the fellowship is for a period of 90 days (August,10,2018-November, 10, 2018),where I was directly led by the Editor-in-Chief of Legal Desire–Mr. Anuj Kumar, himself where he would provide me with day to day tasks encompassing judgement writings in form of news snippets, report writing, article writing etc. On a personal note, I could not have asked for a better mentor aka turned friend who is as cool as a cucumber and would willingly offer help at the wee hours.
During my fellowship as a researcher, I had the chance of publishing my work in the website, newsletter and international journal of Legal Desire which would now help me in my legal career. The most striking part of the fellowship was the concept of ‘ work from home’ task unlike other internships or fellowships which could cost a bomb for one, further the timings were flexible as due regard was given to the career of the law student which is apart from the internships and other related things. My working hours were customarily during the evening (due to busy law school schedule all through the day) as the deadline would be on the same day of the task which was being given.
Apart from the flexible timings, the most temping thing is a stipend that is offered to a research fellow after a satisfactory completion of the fellowship , at the end of three months. Meanwhile, if one performs well, one might even get lucky to bag a job with Legal Desire.
In a nutshell, my experience with fellowships has never been so heart-warming. The words written cannot measure up to the enticing experience that I have had. I feel deeply fortunate to grab another opportunity of working with such a blooming enterprise like Legal Desire and undoubtedly with Mr. Anuj Kumar, Founder at Legal Desire Media & Publications.
