Jones Day announced that Marta de Cara has joined the Firm as counsel in its Global Disputes Practice. She is based in Jones Day’s Madrid Office.

Ms. de Cara has 12 years of experience advising corporations and financial institutions on a wide range of arbitration and litigation matters in the fields of civil, corporate and insolvency law, with a particular focus on directors’ liability, indemnities and breach of contracts matters. She has extensive experience dealing with Non-Performing Loan (NPL) portfolios and has represented clients in several criminal proceedings before the Spanish criminal courts, primarily related to intellectual property rights and white-collar crimes.

“Marta has broad experience in cross-border litigation and international arbitration proceedings, including international investment arbitration before the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes, commercial arbitration, and ad hoc arbitration proceedings,” said Sion Richards, who leads Jones Day’s Global Disputes Practice. “This experience strengthens our capabilities to serve our clients who are facing complex commercial disputes around the world.”

At Jones Day, Ms. de Cara joins a team of more than 200 lawyers in the Global Disputes Practice, who are located in more than 25 business centers worldwide. The group serves clients in some of the most challenging jurisdictions around the world and in some of the highest-value disputes in those jurisdictions. Ms. de Cara will collaborate with her Global Disputes colleagues to help clients successfully resolve disputes wherever they arise, whether through litigation, arbitration or some combination of the two.

“Our Madrid-based lawyers collaborate closely with our Jones Day colleagues in Europe and around the globe to serve our clients in a wide range of practices,” said Marta Delgado Echevarría, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s Madrid Office. “Marta is well-respected here in the Madrid legal community for her work in litigation and arbitration, and having worked with clients in the construction, transportation and oil & gas sectors, her experience ads to our capabilities in those industries. We are delighted to welcome her to our team at Jones Day.”

Ms. de Cara is a member of the Bar Association of Madrid, the Spanish Arbitration Club and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She earned a master’s degree in Law at the IE Law School and a degree in Law and Business from Granada University.

“I have long respected Jones Day’s Global Disputes Practice for its worldwide team of lawyers who bring an integrated approach to resolving matters before tribunals and courts in multiple jurisdictions,” said Ms. de Cara. “I look forward to working alongside my new colleagues in Madrid and around the globe.”
