Linklaters advised Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) on the formation of a joint venture with global energy leader, Iberdrola, on the co-development of a 3.3GW portfolio of six offshore wind projects in Japan. Iberdrola has acquired Macquarie’s wind energy platform in Japan, Acacia Renewables, and will take forward the existing offshore wind development pipeline alongside Macquarie’s GIG, while its existing onshore wind development business will be taken forward by Macquarie’s GIG.
The Linklaters team was led by corporate partners Hiroya Yamazaki and Matthew Bland, with support from managing associates Takashi Shibusawa and Jennifer Sharp.
Partner, Hiroya Yamazaki, commented:
“Linklaters has extensive experience advising on offshore wind transactions in Japan, both on the M&A and project financing side. It is a privilege to work with Macquarie on this important transaction, supporting the continued development of Japan’s renewable energy sector.”
Partner, Head of Asia Energy & Infrastructure, John Maxwell added:
“We are delighted for Macquarie’s Green Investment Group, and we are pleased to have been able to play our role in their joint venture with Iberdrola. Another indication of the exciting time ahead for the industry in Japan.”
