Jones Day announced today that Julie Shin has joined the Firm as of counsel in its Intellectual Property Practice. She will be based in Jones Day’s New York Office.

With substantial experience advising Korean and multinational companies, Ms. Shin focuses on cross-border IP litigation, IP transactions, and regulatory compliance. She has both in-house and outside counsel experience on a broad range of legal and business concerns involving patents, trademarks and trade secrets analysis and dispute resolution; IP licensing; joint ventures, M&A and other transactions; and IP portfolio management and development. Ms. Shin has extensive experience advising companies in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, chemical and consumer products industries.

“Julie’s experience with global IP strategies and litigation for Korea-based technology companies will be an invaluable addition to our growing IP practice and Korea practice,” said Anthony M. Insogna, leader of Jones Day’s global Intellectual Property Practice. “Her presence in New York will help bridge our clients’ needs across the United States and Europe.”

At Jones Day, Ms. Shin joins a team of more than 220 IP professionals worldwide who leverage courtroom skills, strategic business acumen and technology prowess to help clients win cases, strengthen IP portfolios, close major technology-driven transactions and navigate risk. Jones Day is one of the few global law firms with a full-service Intellectual Property Practice, including the litigation of complex multi-jurisdictional disputes across Australia, Asia, Europe and the U.S.

“Julie has valuable experience from her time as in-house at a global tech company in Korea and as outside counsel for a number of global life sciences companies, and has deep experience guiding clients to achieve favorable legal and business outcomes involving their IP portfolios,” said Leon F. DeJulius Jr., Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s New York Office. “Her technical knowledge and proven legal skills make her a wonderful addition to our IP team here in New York.”

Ms. Shin started her legal career at a prominent U.S. law firm and served as a senior legal counsel at a major Korean electronics company before joining a Seoul-based top-tier general practice law firm. Fluent in English and Korean, Ms. Shin earned her law degree from the University of Virginia Law School and her undergraduate degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale University.

“The world’s largest life sciences and technology companies turn to Jones Day to protect their intellectual property and handle their IP prosecution, litigation, and transactional needs,” said Ms. Shin. “I am excited to join this trusted global practice group and look forward to working with my new colleagues around the world.”
