The global law firm Jones Day announces that Dr. Thomas Preute has joined the Firm’s Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice as a partner in its Düsseldorf Office.
Dr. Preute has advised numerous national and international corporations on internal investigations; government enforcement matters; crisis management; and the establishment, implementation, and assessment of compliance programs. His clients include DAX and M-DAX-listed large German corporations, private equity houses, and family-owned groups of companies across various industries, including automotive, chemical, construction, defense, energy, health care, logistics, and manufacturing. Dr. Preute has advised clients on anti-corruption matters, antitrust and competition laws, export controls, fraud, human rights, and money laundering matters, particularly with cross-border implications.
“We are enthusiastic about the addition of Thomas, a highly regarded investigations and compliance lawyer, to our continuously expanding team,” comments Ansgar Rempp, Jones Day’s Partner-in Charge of Germany. “As investigations have rapidly grown in Germany in recent years, our Investigations & White Collar Defense team has been retained frequently for significant compliance and investigations matters. Thomas’ arrival adds to our very strong capabilities throughout Germany and around the world, and enables us to bring even greater value to our clients.”
Prior to joining Jones Day, Dr. Preute was a partner for more than five years at a globally active boutique firm that focuses on compliance and investigations, including monitorships under appointment by U.S. authorities. Before entering private practice, Dr. Preute worked in corporate managerial roles, including serving as group managing director of a NYSE-listed company. He has been recognized multiple times in The Legal 500 Deutschland and JUVE Handbook.
“As regulatory scrutiny and enforcement activity continue to intensify throughout Europe and the rest of the world, companies are increasingly in need of counsel from lawyers like Thomas, who brings substantial cross-border experience on a wide range of compliance and investigations matters,” said Ted Chung, leader of Jones Day’s Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice. “He is an excellent addition as we continue to add accomplished lawyers in jurisdictions around the world to best serve our clients.”
“I am excited to be part of Jones Day’s cohesive partnership and contributing to the Firm’s continued success,” said Dr. Preute. “Jones Day has all of the components to meet clients’ complex requirements for efficient and successful compliance work: seamless service delivery across practices and jurisdictions, substantial global reach, and deep talent across subject areas.”
