Washington, D.C. – Quarles & Brady LLP announced today that James Aquilina and Hans Riede have been appointed co-managing partners of the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.
Aquilina is the Washington office chair of the Intellectual Property (IP) Practice Group and Riede is Washington office chair of the Labor & Employment Practice Group. They assume the roles as co-office managing partners after serving as part of a committee that led the office for the past year.

An internationally recognized IP strategist and leader in U.S. design law, Aquilina advises global clients in a wide variety of industries on IP procurement, strategic portfolio development and management, offensive and defensive dispute matters, licensing and anti-counterfeiting efforts. He has been recognized in back-to-back years by IAM Strategy 300 Global Leaders as one of the “Top 300 Intellectual Property Strategists.”
He earned a B.S. from Rutgers University and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
Riede, who received his B.S. from the University of Virginia and J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law, is an employment and unlawful business practice litigator who also counsels clients on risk mitigation and the potential benefits, risks and costs associated with any potential employment, restrictive covenant or trade secrets litigation. He has been selected multiple times to both Virginia Business Magazine “Legal Elite” and Washington, D.C., Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” (Employment Litigation: Defense).
