Interview: Prof.(Dr.) Hari Mohan Mittal, Dean at ICFAI Law School, Dehradun

ICFAI Law School, Dehradun

He has completed his under graduation with 1st division, and post graduation degree with good academic records from the University of Rajasthan. He was awarded his Ph.D. in the year 1989

Dr. Hari Mohan Mittal is the Dean and head of academic affairs & Research of ICFAI Law School Dehradun. He has 29 years of UG and PG teaching experience. He has 40 research papers/articles published in various nationally reputed books and journals. He has attended around 30 national and 10 international seminars. He has been co-ordination/convener/member in different communities like moot court, Mock parliament, debate competition etc. He has served as an examiner/paper setter & moderator in CA as well as CS examinations.

He had secured 3rd position in the written examination of judicial magistrate, state of Rajasthan. He has written 2 books in Hindi on the caption PIL, legal aid & legal service which have been awarded by the ministry of law & justice and also by the ministry of company affairs.

His areas of specialization are Constitutional law, labor law, Human Rights Law & Jurisprudence. Dr, Hari Mohan Mittal is an experienced legal scholar and has administrated 10 Ph.D. scholars who have been awarded Ph.D. under his guidance & 7 are registered under his guidance.

He was interviewed by Pallavi Singh, Legal desire Executive Assistant & Campus Ambassador at ICFAI University Dehradun. So here’s the interview:

 

Pallavi Singh: – How would you describe yourself to our readers?

Dr. H.M.Mittal:- I graduated and completed my post graduation from Rajasthan University, with good academic rerecords. I was awarded my Ph.D. In 1989, and I have 29 years of teaching experience. I am specialized in constitutional law, labor & industrial law, Human Rights law &b also in jurisprudence. I have also appeared in Rajasthan judicial service exams and secured 3rd position. I joined ICFAI University in 2016 and I am currently serving as the dean of ICFAI Law School (ILS) Dehradun.

 

Pallavi Singh: – Briefly Describe ICFAI University Dehradun and the main features which add to the repute of the university?

Dr. H.M.Mittal:- The ICFAI University-Dehradun, was established in 2003 by The Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI), a non-profit organization, under the Govt. of Uttarakhand Act 2003. Its’ main objective is to create and disseminate knowledge and impart skills in core areas through innovative educational programmes, and research & development, thereby developing a new cadre of professionals with a high degree of competence and a deep sense of ethics and commitment. The programmes within the university are structured in a way, so as to impart the students with quality education and thereby providing the recruiters with a bunch of budding talented professionals. The University encourages and supports co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and our students take part in sports, cultural activities, seminars and workshops organized by different colleges and Universities at National/International forums.

 

 

Pallavi Singh: – What was the main aim behind establishing School of Law and how is it different from another law school?

Dr. H.M.Mittal:- The ICFAI Law School (ILS), ICFAI University Dehradun believes in the blend of imparting education along with gaining practical experience, thus ensuring that students are well versed with the intricacies of the practical application of the law in diverse areas, even before graduating. Globalization has thrown up new challenges, and the professional legal education has to cater to the growing demands for skilled legal professionals who can effectively function in the emerging legal order. The present challenge is to measure up to internationally acceptable levels of excellence. The ICFAI Law School (ILS) was established with a view to cater to the requirements of the legal profession, law teaching and research, and judiciary. It has facilitated the use of technological aids in classrooms and Conference Halls. Due to flexible lecture timings, students start pursuing their internships from the 1 year of college itself. Thus, at the time of graduation, they have the expertise and knowledge, which can be considered to be at par with working Law professionals. The proximity of the college to the Different High Courts offers another incentive to the college students. They undergo internships under sitting judges, counsel and senior counsel. The presence of famous legal luminaries at a close proximity to the college encourages the students to go beyond the curriculum and undertake long-term internships and thus enables them to outshine others in the practical field.

 

Pallavi Singh: – How is your University imparting practical skills to students apart from academic knowledge?

Dr. H.M.Mittal:- The ICFAI University aims for the holistic development of its students with focus on both curricular and co-curricular activities. Our students are equipped with subject knowledge, soft skills, common communication and the right attitude. The syllabus has been designed by keeping in mind the requirements of lawyers, law managers. For building confidence and giving exposure to practical aspects of the industry, the students are sent for internships with industry/law firms for adequate periods. In addition, National/International study tours & Moot Courts are conducted and visits to Industry/Courts are organized.

The future belongs to those who believe in the capabilities of young minds.  At The ICFAI University-Dehradun, all our endeavors of achieving academic excellence are driven with the goal of creating a solid edifice for a brilliant future of our youth. We impart practical knowledge to your children by exploring them to various activities and opportunities like Moot Court, legal Aid camps, Guest Lectures, clinical subjects and legal internships right from their 1st year.

 

Pallavi Singh: – Kindly let us know whether there is any provision for a scholarship for your programmer’s and if yes how to apply for it?

Dr. H.M.Mittal:- The ICFAI law school (ILS) offers merit scholarship to is a student pursuing the UG& PG programs. These scholarships are based on past academic records and semester-wise performances. The scholarship value amounts from 90,000 to 1, 40,000. Based on the category set on the % obtained in qualifying examination.

 

Pallavi Singh: – Describe future career perspective, tie-ups, and placements?

Dr. H.M.Mittal:- The University gives utmost importance to assist students in getting suitable placements after successful completion of the program. The training and placement wing at the University looks after the training and placement activities on a continuing basis. Staffed by senior professionals and placement executives, the team initiates and maintains the University-Industry dialogue and manages the summer internship program and final placement activities. The team evaluates student performance levels and ensures relevant preparation for their corporate placements. Working both at the supply and demand sides of the placement, the team plays the vital intermediary role of matching academic excellence and industry expectations and counseling the students appropriately.


 

Pallavi Singh: – Message to our readers

Dr. H.M.Mittal:- Law from ages has been a Nobel profession, and we expect the legacy to be maintained and flourished by all the young and budding lawyers. I would advise them to work hard and acquire all the skills to excel in this profession, and also all the very best for their future.
