Paul Edwards is a personal injury attorney and partner at Cowen Edwards Trial Lawyers. He earned his law degree from Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad Law Center after which he worked for prominent insurance companies, giving him insight into the insurance claim, investigation, and litigation processes. He uses this knowledge to help injury victims gain the compensation they deserve.
Why did you decide to focus your career on personal injury?
We chose to focus our practice on person injury because we both enjoy helping people in need. No matter the facts of any particular case all of our clients share the commonality that they have been through a traumatic and sometimes tragic event that they need help to understand, process, and recover from. We love helping clients through these times and providing them with the level of service they deserve.Â
What are the most common claims in Ft Lauderdale?Â
Fort Lauderdale is actually home to the most dangerous stretch of highway in the United States! So, there is no shortage of motor vehicle accidents. We also handle cases against property owners when someone is injured on their property. about. Some clients are surprised to learn that this can even include when they have been the victim of a criminal act on a property when the owner knew or should have known that the property presented these kinds of dangers.
What are the most common challenges your clients face?Â
Many clients don’t know where to start and become overwhelmed with all of the moving parts once an accident happens. We do our best to take that stress away from the client so they can focus on getting better and making the most of their lives post-injury.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in personal injury law?Â
Whether as a lawyer or paraprofessional, my advice would be to go for it! The field is very rewarding and allows you to make a living while helping those in need.
What steps do you take to make sure your clients are fairly compensated for their injuries?Â
The first step is documentation. Whether this means taking photos of an accident scene or keeping accident records handy, it makes our job much easier and often gives us evidence that helps in presenting a claim. Another key step would be listening to your body and getting the medical care you need when you need it. Is something hurts, go to the doctor. It’s better to get checked out and know that to tough it out and not know the extent of any injuries you may have. When cases are documented well it makes the job of receiving full value for a claim much easier. Â
What is the most rewarding part of your job?Â
Helping a client close a bad chapter in their lives on a good note. We can’t undo the past or take a client back to pre-injury status, but we can ensure they are fairly and fully compensated for their injuries, time, and discomfort.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
Every case has its own challenges and is something like a puzzle that needs to be solved. It’s not always easy to tell which puzzles will be easy and which will be difficult, but this is one of the most exciting parts of our job as we watch cases develop and identify the issues that ‘move the needle’ toward a good resolution.
