Global law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that Mauricio Llamas has joined the firm as a partner in our Global Regulatory & Intellectual Property, Media, and Technology (IPMT) practice group, as member of our Environment & Natural Resources practice and ESG committee, based in Mexico City.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Mauricio to the firm,” said Janice Hogan, Global Head of Hogan Lovells’ Global Regulatory & IPMT practice group. “Mauricio has a well-earned reputation as one of Mexico’s leading environmental and ESG lawyers, and he is a great addition to our Mexico City office.”
Llamas, who joins the firm alongside a group of one senior associate and two associates, previously served as Jones Day’s head of Government Regulation: Environmental, Health and Safety practice in Mexico City. Over more than two decades, he built a practice that spans the remit of environmental regulatory issues, including advising on environmental impact processes, land use, urban development, air emissions, hazardous materials and waste, polluted sites remediation, climate change, exploitation of natural resources, and ESG-related corporate strategy. He has robust experience leading high-stakes mergers and acquisitions procedures, advising clients on compliance, contingency, crisis management, and corrective action plans, as well as handling complex national judicial litigation, including clean energy actions against Mexico’s federal government.
Adam Kushner, Co-chair of Hogan Lovells’ Global Environmental & Natural Resources practice, said: “Mauricio significantly adds to our already strong international environmental offerings.” Scott Reisch, who also Co-chairs the firm’s Global Environment & Natural Resources practice, added: “Mauricio is the go-to lawyer for high-profile matters, such as advising on environmental compliance and social performance criteria for the new Mexico City Airport project.”
Hogan Lovells’ Mexico City Office Managing partner Omar Guerrero Rodríguez, added: “I’ve known Mauricio’s work for some time, and we are thrilled to welcome him as our partner. He has extensive experience advising leading companies on environmental matters across a number of industry sectors, including energy, chemicals, consumer products, mining, waste management, and others. I expect that he will be a key part of our continued growth in Mexico, through our offices in Mexico City and Monterrey.”
Llamas said: “I am so glad to join the team at Hogan Lovells. The firm is one of the few truly integrated global law firms, and has experienced substantial growth in Mexico in recent years. I look forward to the expanded opportunities to serve clients that are presented by the firm’s strong presence in Mexico, and in environmental matters across the Americas and globally.”
For many years, Llamas has achieved Leading Individual status from Legal 500 and top rankings from Chambers and Partners, both for Environmental Law. Since 2002, Llamas also has served as lead professor of environmental law at the Universidad Anáhuac Law School and as academic coordinator of its Master’s in Environmental Policy, Management, and Legislation program.
Llamas graduated from the Law Faculty of the Universidad Anáhuac and received his Diploma on Advanced Studies for Research from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
