London 29 April 2022 – Global law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce the arrival of Paul Akehurst as the firm’s new Head of Sustainability. Paul brings a strong technical background in building design, energy and carbon management, and environmental assessment, who joins us this week and will be based in our London office . He has over 35 years of experience working in both the public and private sectors developing sustainability strategies and implementing engineering solutions to improve the operational performance of the built environment.

In welcoming Paul to the firm, Susan Bright, Global Managing Partner for Diversity & Inclusion and Responsible Business, commented: “At Hogan Lovells we are committed to operating our business sustainably.  Delivering on our commitments to D&I and Responsible business is one of the firm’s five strategic priorities.  We are delighted to welcome Paul to help us on our journey to support the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and to help both people and planet prosper.”

Paul, who will work closely with other members of the firm’s D&I and Responsible Business team, says: “I am very excited to join an organisation where sustainability features prominently in many of its activities and am looking forward to driving the agenda forward to the benefit of both Hogan Lovells and our clients.”

Paul joins the firm from JLL, where he was regional operations lead for energy and sustainability services, supporting a range of corporate clients in all aspects of sustainability ranging from Net Zero Carbon strategies to enhancing social value.

Dr Marion Palmer, Senior Advisor, Sustainability Policy and Strategy, adds: “We are delighted to have agreed our global emissions reductions targets earlier this year and this is a great time to have Paul join us. We are committed to driving change and I look forward to working alongside him in my role advising the firm and our clients on sustainability policy and strategy.”

Paul earned his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) from the University of East Anglia in Physics and environmental Sciences and also holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) from Cranfield University in Energy Conservation and the Environment.
