Hogan Lovells advises USA Cricket as it wins historic first T20 World Cup hosting bid

New York,  —  A team from global law firm Hogan Lovells has advised USA Cricket on its successful bid to co-host the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024, which will be the first global cricket tournament to be staged in the United States. The sport’s global governing body, the ICC, announced the decision on November 16, with Cricket West Indies (CWI) joining USA Cricket in the successful bid.

“We are delighted to have helped USA Cricket reach this major milestone for the sport in this country,” said Hogan Lovells partner Michael Kuh, who led the team. “Watching the sport develop over the last few years has been exciting and we eagerly anticipate seeing the tournament itself and watching the game develop in the United States thanks to this thrilling opportunity.”

The joint bid is part of a strategic partnership between CWI and USA Cricket which aims to unlock the potential of cricket in the United States and fast track the growth of the sport.

Two-thirds of the matches will be held in the Caribbean, with the remaining one-third likely to be played in the United States. There will be up to five venues in the United States, some of which are already ICC-approved for international cricket, some of which are under construction, and some of which will be repurposed specifically to host World Cup matches.

In addition to Kuh, a corporate and finance partner, the Hogan Lovells team included partner Matt Eisler and counsel Steve Argeris, also members of the corporate and finance group, partners Mark Weinstein and Siobhan Rausch, who advised on tax matters, and Nitin Gambhir, a partner in the intellectual property, media, and technology group.
