London, 08 December 2023 – Global law firm Hogan Lovells has advised UK-listed energy infrastructure company Smart Metering Systems plc (SMS) on a recommended £1.3 billion takeover offer by private equity firm KKR.

Headquartered in Glasgow, SMS is one of the UK leaders in smart energy assets and provides a full end-to-end service in metering, grid-scale battery storage systems, electric vehicle chargers and other carbon reduction assets. SMS employs about 1,500 people, primarily in the United Kingdom.

Patrick Sarch, lead Hogan Lovells partner for the transaction, said: “It has been a real pleasure to work with the fantastic SMS team on this transformational transaction which again highlights Hogan Lovells’ ability to execute the most high profile and complex transactions in the M&A market.”

Craig McGinn, General Counsel at SMS, commented: “Patrick and his extended team at Hogan Lovells have provided absolutely terrific advice to SMS, we couldn’t have asked for a better partner in this transaction.”

The Hogan Lovells team was led by Corporate partner Patrick Sarch with support from Guy Ker and Vinura Ladduwahetty. The Hogan Lovells team also included partners Fiona Bantock, Philip Brown, Daniel Simons and Angus Coulter.
