Hecht Partners LLP (“Hecht Partners”) has announced that its founding partner David L. Hecht has earned the ANSI-accredited Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) credential through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).  Under Mr. Hecht’s leadership, Hecht Partners is also announcing the launch of a new practice area helping companies address cyber and privacy litigation and regulatory enforcement exposure.

“Cyber and privacy compliance and contentious litigation risk are important concerns for many of our clients, particularly in the current era of COVID-19 with so many professionals working from home,” said Mr. Hecht.  “It is important to our clients that we are fully equipped to navigate their compliance obligations.”

Additionally, Mr. Hecht intends to leverage his deep knowledge of cyber and privacy law to buttress the firm’s growing class action practice.  “Class action complaints typically follow large data breaches, which have become commonplace; Hecht Partners LLP intends to be at the forefront of these consumer class cases,” added Mr. Hecht.  Mr. Hecht and firm partner Maxim Price were involved with filing a class action complaint against Capital One and Amazon following an data breach incident that affected approximately 100 million people in the United States.

The CIPP/E and CIPP/US certifications are offered by the IAPP, the global-not-for-profit organization that was the first to publicly establish standards in professional education and testing for privacy and data protection.  The CIPP/US encompasses U.S. privacy laws and regulations and practical concepts concerning limits on private-sector collection and use of data, government and court access to private-sector information, and workplace privacy.
