Free Money – What Is A Class Action Lawsuit Rebate?

By Legal Desire 4 Min Read

A class-action lawsuit rebate in its simplest of terms is a way of recovering financial losses caused by a large company that has been taken to court by a group of people it has wronged.

Lots of companies who have messed up in some way or another will often offer free rebates as a way of making amends for their errors. Class action rebates will give you the chance to claim monetary compensation, vouchers, merchandise and more. Often you can claim back medical bills and pay for future treatment and consultation if the company has inadvertently caused you harm.

There are two possibilities here.

  • The class-action lawsuit has already concluded, the court has ruled in favor of the victims.
  • The class-action lawsuit has yet to start or is ongoing.

The class-action lawsuit has already concluded, the court has ruled in favor of the victims

This is when a company has had a successful lawsuit against it. When this happens, the company will often have to offer to pay compensation to any victim with proper evidence.

This is the best possible scenario. You simply fill in a claim form. This will start with your personal information and finish with you attaching evidence for your claim. Then you just have to wait some time and your compensation will be sent to you, this can take some time so be patient.

The class-action lawsuit has yet to start or is ongoing

In this case, it’s going to be a bit more difficult for you to claim your compensation. If there is an ongoing class-action lawsuit then you will have to find out how to take part. You will have to register your interest and wait for one of the lawyers representing the victims gets in touch with you.

Usually you will have the full right to take part in the lawsuit if you meet the criteria. You will then become part of “the group,” which means the lead applicant will be representing you in the fight against the accused.

If there is not a class-action lawsuit against your chosen party, you could always start your own. To start a class action, you need to follow three rules.

  1. 7+ People must be making the same claim against a company.
  2. The claimants all come from similar backgrounds and the same circumstances.
  3. The claims must be in regard to a law being breached.

Don’t Be Scared!

Remember, don’t be scared off from a class action lawsuit because you want to claim against a massive company.

Remember that in 2005, a class action lawsuit was successfully lodged against Visa/Mastercard, they stood accused by retailers for charging ridiculous fees. They were even accused of conspiracy to fix rates on credit cards. This was settled in 2012, the class action lead to compensation in the range of 8,000,000,000 Dollars. Other big companies have faced similar losses. These include Worldcom, Tyco, Enron, and AOL.
