Foley Bolsters Health Care Sector and Government Enforcement Defense & Investigations Practice with Addition of Two Partners in Tampa, Continuing Florida Growth

Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that the firm has expanded its Health Care and Government Enforcement Defense & Investigations Practices as Jason Mehta and Natalie Adams join as partners in Tampa. The addition of these experienced former federal prosecutors, who will work within the firm’s Health Care and Life Sciences Sector, builds on Foley’s continued investment in Florida following the joining of the transactions team and Partner Michael Crosbie earlier this year.

Mehta and Adams focus on representing clients in a wide range of criminal health care fraud and civil False Claims Act matters. Drawing on their experience as former federal prosecutors and seasoned defense counsel, they advise and defend companies and individuals in government and internal investigations, class action lawsuits, and complex civil and criminal litigation.

“Jason’s and Natalie’s targeted skillset and government experience enhance our team’s capabilities both nationally and regionally, as we support and advise our clients on a number of increasingly complex federal and state issues,” said Lisa Noller, chair of the firm’s Government Enforcement Defense & Investigations Practice. “These strategic additions augment Foley’s ability to provide administrative, civil and criminal solutions for clients, and their insights add immediate value.”

Mehta brings extensive experience prosecuting and defending clients in challenging criminal and civil fraud cases, internal investigations, and bet-the-company litigation, including in the health care, diagnostic testing, and telemedicine arenas. As a former Assistant U.S. Attorney in Jacksonville, Florida, Mehta has worked extensively on health care cases, both in the civil and criminal divisions of the office, including work with the False Claims Act (FCA). He also advises companies and individuals on issues surrounding the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and on matters associated with government prosecution, health care fraud, FCPA compliance, and anti-money laundering.

Adams likewise counsels clients on criminal matters, complex civil litigation, and internal investigations in these fields. For nearly a decade, Adams served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Middle District of Florida, building strategic cases that combined grand jury investigations and electronic surveillance techniques, including wiretaps, witness development, financial analysis, and warrants for searches and seizures. Adams also has assisted clients with criminal, civil, administrative, and appellate matters, successfully defending them against FCA, health care fraud, and other claims.

“We’re excited to welcome Jason and Natalie to our Tampa office and tap into their deep regional knowledge that will be a boon to our clients,” said Randy Wolfe, managing partner of Foley’s Tampa office. “Our clients come to us for our diverse backgrounds and trial-tested experience, and both of these highly skilled litigators will further strengthen our offerings in Florida and nationally.”

“We are thrilled to join Foley’s Government Enforcement Defense & Investigations Practice and to work with colleagues in Foley’s best-in-class telehealth and health care teams,” said Mehta and Adams. “We are also grateful for the opportunity to better serve our clients by leveraging Foley’s extensive Florida presence, including its offices from Miami to Jacksonville.”
