Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that M. Andrew Holtman has joined the firm as a partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group in Washington, D.C. Holtman, who holds a Ph.D. in molecular genetics, brings extensive experience in the pharmaceutical, diagnostics, and biotechnology fields and further enhances Foley’s focused efforts in the Health Care and Life Sciences and Innovative Technology sectors.
Holtman is an experienced trial lawyer who litigates patent disputes and leads due diligence investigations. His experience covers most biotechnology-related fields, such as biochemistry, biomechanical technologies, genetics, immunology, medical devices, and plant molecular biology, as well as technologies ranging from pharmaceutical formulations to gas turbofan engines and hybrid vehicles.
“Andy is an impressive trial lawyer. His legal and technical backgrounds are a perfect fit for our growing IP litigation practice,” said Jeff Gundersen, chair of Foley’s Intellectual Property Department. “His particular experience with Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) and biosimilar litigation aligns with Foley’s priorities, especially as we continue our focused efforts to deepen services in the Health Care and Life Sciences and Innovative Technology sectors.”
Holtman routinely represents clients before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), federal district courts, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He also has significant experience coordinating multi-jurisdictional patent matters across numerous European court systems.
“Andy is one of the most active patent attorneys before the PTAB and brings an impressive track record of success leading clients through their most complex and technical patent disputes,” said David Sanders, managing partner of Foley’s Washington, D.C. office. “We are thrilled to welcome him to our team in D.C. and as a member of the broader IP Litigation Practice.”
“Foley’s national platform, respected IP group, and vibrant sector teams make the firm the ideal fit for me to continue growing my IP practice,” said Holtman. “I am excited to partner with my new Foley colleagues and build upon the strong foundation they have laid.”
