DLA Piper Represents SER Capital Partners in US$475m Close of Debut Fund

DLA Piper represented SER Capital Partners (SER), a private investment firm dedicated to sustainability, in the closing of its SER Capital Partners I, LP and affiliated vehicles. SER exceeded its stated target and raised a total of US$475 million in support of its strategy to capitalize middle-market renewable energy businesses and infrastructure assets.

SER’s fundraise was supported by aligned and well-capitalized limited partners including a diverse group of leading endowments, state pensions, insurers, health systems and family offices. The fund is already supporting SER in their direct investments in three portfolio companies: Microgrid Networks, Perfect Power and Brightcore Energy. These businesses collectively implement and manage battery storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, energy efficiency and solar assets.

“We are proud to bring our extensive experience in fund formation and private equity to this fundraise for SER,” said Nathaniel Marrs, co-chair of DLA Piper’s Investment Funds practice and the partner who led the deal team. “As the market evolves and more businesses explore sustainable investment opportunities, DLA Piper looks forward to supporting clients through all stages of the fundraising and investment process and facilitating the growth of sustainable investing for years to come.”

In addition to Marrs (Chicago), the DLA Piper team representing SER included partners John Cusack and Tom Geraghty (both of Chicago), as well as associates Dwayne Paul (Chicago) and Eliza Perocchi (Boston).

With more than 1,000 corporate lawyers globally, DLA Piper helps clients execute complex transactions seamlessly while supporting clients across all stages of development. DLA Piper’s global investment funds team provides a dynamic, integrated service to sponsors, fund managers and institutional investors, supported by the firm’s international tax and regulatory networks. The team advises clients on the full spectrum of private investment funds, all major investment strategies and all stages of a private investment fund’s life cycle.
