Dentons names Yasser Taqi as first Omani lawyer to be promoted to partner

Muscat—Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, has strengthened its Energy, Transport and Infrastructure team in Oman and the Middle East with the promotion of Yasser Taqi to Partner.

Yasser is an England and Wales qualified lawyer, who joined Dentons as one of the firm’s first trainees from the Middle East region. After over 10 years in Dentons’ offices in London, Dubai and Muscat, Yasser is now the first Omani lawyer to be promoted to Partner at Dentons.

Yasser has advised on numerous significant and high-profile mandates including drafting the rules for the region’s first spot market for the wholesale of electricity; developing Oman’s largest utility-scale solar PV IPP; handling construction sector arbitrations as well as construction contracts; and negotiating concession agreements in the oil and gas, mining and ports sectors. He is an expert in the regulatory framework for power and water in both Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Yasser was the first lawyer to be awarded the prestigious NTI “Business Professional of the Year” in 2019, and is ranked as an “Associate to Watch” and a “Rising Star” in the Chambers and Legal 500 legal directories, respectively. He has served as a non-executive director on the board of Outward Bound Oman since March 2020.

Yasser will continue to support clients in Oman and across the Middle East on energy, infrastructure and natural resources projects, with a growing focus on renewable energy and green hydrogen.

“Yasser’s promotion to Partner is testament to the dedication and hard work that he has demonstrated,” said Paul Jarvis, Chief Executive Officer of Dentons UK, Ireland and Middle East. “His promotion also further strengthens Dentons’ leading practice in Oman, which remains an important market for the firm.”

“As our business in Oman continues to evolve in line with market requirements, Yasser’s promotion comes as a result of our clear focus on the development of our talented Omani colleagues, at the time when Dentons celebrates its 40th year in Oman, and paves the way for continued success in serving our clients in Oman,” said Andrew Figgins, Managing Partner of Dentons Oman.
