Dentons launches combination with East African Law Chambers (EALC) in Tanzania

By Legal Desire 4 Min Read

Dentons has launched a previously announced combination with leading Tanzanian law firm, East African Law Chambers (EALC), as part of its strategy to scale across Africa. The combination with East African Law Chambers (EALC) advances Dentons’ strategy to become the leading Pan-African law firm owned and controlled by Africans.

Dentons is now the largest global law firm in Tanzania, helping clients to navigate the New Dynamic Decade in 14 locations in Africa and 198 locations across 78 countries around the world.

On a continent scarred by the legacy of colonial domination and in a market where the operations of every leading law firm are hierarchical, Dentons’ unique polycentric and anti-colonial approach has been a stark differentiator, disrupting the traditional model for providing legal services in Africa.

“Our launch in Tanzania further builds upon our strategy to become the leading Pan-African law firm owned and controlled by Africans,” said Elliott Portnoy, Global CEO of Dentons. “Tanzania’s strategic location makes it a priority market for clients and our new office in Dar es Salaam expands Dentons’ existing East African regional offering allowing us to connect clients to opportunities across East Africa, the continent and around the globe.”

“Dentons’ distinctly anti-colonial approach continues to disrupt the traditional model for providing legal services in Africa and uniquely positions Dentons to meet client needs on the continent and beyond,” said Joe Andrew, Global Chairman of Dentons. “As we enter the New Dynamic Decade, our clients will continue to be confronted with constant, accelerated change and want to work with a law firm that has the experience and confidence to help them thrive.”

The new firm, to be branded Dentons EALC East African Law Chambers, has more than 15 years of experience in Tanzania and is regarded as one of Tanzania’s top law firms. With six partners and 13 lawyers, it has strengths in Banking and Finance, Capital Markets and Securities, Competition, Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate and Commercial, Employment and Labor, Intellectual Property, Dispute Resolution, Mining, Oil and Gas, Real Estate, Taxation and Tax law, Telecommunications, Media and Technology.

“At Dentons, our strategy is centered around finding combination partners which have the proven talent and ability to provide exceptional legal services in the markets in which they operate,” said Noor Kapdi, CEO of Dentons’ Africa Region. “East African Law Chambers (EALC) is a preeminent Tanzanian law firm and our launch today allows Dentons to continue its momentum in Africa, where we have become a magnet for talent.”

”We are thrilled to be launching our combination with Dentons, furthering our vision to become the leading law firm in the region, said Stella Ndikimi, Managing Partner of Dentons EALC East African Law Chambers. “We can now connect clients to unparalleled talent both in the region and globally.”
