Global law firm Dentons announces the addition of Christian Lau as a partner in the Trade, WTO and Customs group in Brussels and Geneva.

Christian Lau brings more than 20 years of experience in international trade matters, assisting government and private-sector clients in navigating and resolving a wide range of issues under international trade law, including the agreements of the World Trade Organization (“WTO”) and other plurilateral or bilateral trade agreements.

Belgium Managing Partner, Edward Borovikov said: “Christian’s arrival adds a senior top-class WTO professional to our team and will strengthen our offering in the area of WTO dispute settlement, advisory and trade negotiations. This comes at a time when the EU has released a Communication on a European Economic Security Strategy which identifies strengthening the international rules-based economic order and multilateral institutions, such as the WTO, as a priority.”

Canada Partner, Paul Lalonde said: “Christian’s arrival is an exciting development for Dentons. We now have a world class WTO and regulatory presence in Geneva to better serve our clients’ needs. Our Trade team in Canada very much looks forward to collaborating with Christian.”

Washington, DC Managing Partner, Michael Zolandz said: “We are excited to be able to leverage Christian’s broad experience on cross-border trade matters, especially in Geneva, given the deep trade needs of our US clients.”

UK International Trade Practice Lead, Roger Matthews said: “Christian’s decision to join Dentons’ International Trade Practice is testament to our leading position in this area in Europe and globally; his depth of WTO experience and the on-the-ground presence in Geneva that Dentons gains through him will be of particular value to UK-based clients as they increasingly look for WTO solutions to international trade issues.”

Commenting on his appointment, Christian Lau said: “I am excited to be joining Dentons. As a law firm with truly global reach, Dentons is an excellent platform from which to practice international trade law. It also creates many exciting new opportunities for my clients.”

Dentons’ Global International Trade/WTO and Sanctions Team is one of the most experienced and recognized in the world. The team includes more than 160 lawyers in 70+ jurisdictions and offers clients significant experience across the full spectrum of international trade regulation, policy and dispute resolution.
