Common Types of Personal Injury Cases

By Legal Desire 4 Min Read

There are many different kinds of personal injury cases that occur as a result of another person’s negligence. When someone else’s disregard for your safety leads to injury, you may be able to recover compensation to cover the costs of your medical bills, lost income, and other damages.

Each personal injury case will have different variables, even among similar accidents and injuries. The thing that every personal injury case has in common is that they involve the negligent or careless acts of someone else. If any of these scenarios have happened to you, you may have a valid claim.

Motor Vehicle Accidents

Since there are so many vehicles on the road, car accidents top the list for these types of cases. Often, distracted driving is a factor thanks to smartphones, though speeding and drunk driving are other common causes. Additionally, another driver may not be the only at-fault party in your crash, as it could be a faulty part, improperly maintained roads or traffic signals, or a company that employs the driver.

Slip and Fall Cases

As part of premises liability, slip and fall cases are another common type of personal injury accident. Property owners must keep their premises free of hazards by inspecting and repairing issues promptly. When they can’t fix something immediately, they must provide visible warnings to keep people away from danger.

Slip and fall cases happen due to wet floors in a store, uneven sidewalks, and poor lighting in stairwells. The idea is that the owner either knew or should have known and taken steps to protect people on the property.

Product Liability Cases

If you are injured by a defective product, you may be able to file a lawsuit. Defects in design or manufacturing as well as insufficient directions or warnings can cause serious injury. Cases like these happen with everything from faulty car parts to dangerous medicines and supplements.

Workplace Accident Cases

Employees will be covered with workers’ compensation in the event of an injury. However, sometimes a third party may be responsible. In those situations, you could file a lawsuit against the third-party provider for faulty safety equipment or for a machinery accident. In other scenarios, some employers don’t report injuries as required, preventing injured employees from receiving the benefits they deserve under workers’ comp.

Dog Bites

If you’re invited to someone’s house or you’re performing a service such as delivering the mail and a dog bites you, you can hold the owner liable. It doesn’t matter if the dog has never exhibited aggressive behavior before. Dog bites and attacks can cause permanent damage to injury victims and leave them psychologically impacted and fearful of canines.

Pedestrian Accidents

Plenty of people would rather get out into the fresh air and walk to nearby destinations. When drivers fail to pay attention, they can cause serious injuries to pedestrians along the road or in parking lots.
