Global law firm Clifford Chance is advising Global Data Centers, a business unit of NTT DATA, in connection with the planning of a data centre campus in Nierstein, Rhineland-Palatinate. NTT DATA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Japanese telecommunications group Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT).
The project is still in a very early planning phase: NTT DATA, together with the town of Nierstein and the Rhein-Selz municipality, has initiated a development plan procedure for the construction. The new campus is to be built on the site of a former US barracks in Nierstein, the Rhein-Selz-Park. If the process proceeds on schedule, the first key points and basic concepts can likely be presented in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The demand for computing power has risen rapidly in recent years, driven by the increasing use of artificial intelligence. With the planned data centre campus in Rhein-Selz-Park, NTT DATA is contributing to meeting this rapidly growing demand in Germany.
NTT DATA is a Trusted Global Innovator of business and IT solutions headquartered in Tokyo. Global Data Centers, the business unit responsible for planning, constructing, and operating data centres, has been operating highly available and particularly energy-efficient data centres in Germany since 2001. This global platform of NTT DATA is one of the largest in the world, spanning more than 20 countries and regions, including North America, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, and India.
