Global law firm Clifford Chance has advised ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions on its latest carbon capture and storage agreement with CF Industries in Mississippi. This matter continues the firm’s support of ExxonMobil, with Jonathan Castelan leading the Clifford Chance team on this matter and supporting ExxonMobil’s three previously announced carbon capture agreements.
Under the agreement, ExxonMobil will transport and permanently store up to 500,000 metric tons per year (MTA) of captured CO2 from CF Industries’ complex in Yazoo City. The project will enable CF Industries to reduce its CO2 emissions by up to about 50 percent. With this agreement, the total CO2 ExxonMobil has agreed to store for customers is up to 5.5 million MTA.
Castelan offered, “We are delighted to again work with ExxonMobil as they continue to play a critical role in the maturing of the carbon storage market.”
Castelan was supported by associates Sam Bentley and Hillary Healey, with partner Alex Leff advising on Tax matters.
